§ 10-1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Animal means every living creature, domestic or wild, except man.

    Cat means all domesticated members of the felis catus specie, male or female.

    Dog means all domesticated members of the canis familiaris specie, male or female.

    Neutered animal means a male or female animal treated by a licensed veterinarian to render it incapable of reproduction.

    Owner means any person having a right of property in an animal, or who keeps or harbors an animal, or who knowingly permits an animal to remain on or about any premises occupied by him.

    Person means any individual, or firm, or partnership, association or corporation.

    Public area means any public street, alley, sidewalk, parkway, easement, and municipal, school, park, recreational, or other public and church properties.

    Run at large means to be free of restraint.

    Vicious animal means any animal that bites or in any other manner attacks or attempts to attack, unless it does so towards a person unlawfully entering its owner's premises.
