Latest version.
  • (a)

It is hereby made the duty of the owner, agent or person in possession of every building in the village, except barns, outhouses or garages located upon the premises used for dwelling purposes, to number such building in the manner herein provided.

    (b)

A house numbering system is hereby established in the village, in accordance with the following plan:

    (1)

That each section of land, wholly or partially within the limits of the village be divided into 64 squares of equal size, the sides of each being one-eighth of the width of the section as measured on the east and west and one-eighth the depth of the section as measured north and south.

    (2)

Beginning at 26th Street on the north side of the village, houses shall be numbered to the south within such squares starting with the number 2600 on the west side of all north and south streets within every such square, and 2601 on the east side of such streets, and increasing to the next higher even number on the west side of such streets toward the south, and to the next higher odd number on the east side of such streets, with the house number for each 20 feet of frontage on every such street until the next succeeding east and west line forming such squares is reached, at which point the numbering shall proceed beginning with the next higher 100 as 2700, 2800, 2900, 3000, etc., so that the highest number at the south end of the village would be 3398 and 3399, depending on whether it is on the west side or east side of the street.

    (3)

Houses on east and west streets shall bear east and west numbers beginning with blocks extending east and west from Chicago Road. Beginning at the west line of Chicago Road within said village, houses shall be numbered to the west starting with the number 1 on the north side and beginning with number 2 on the south side of all east and west streets and increasing to the next odd number on the north side of such streets and to the next even number on the south side of such streets and house number for each 20 feet of frontage of such street, until the next succeeding north and south line forming such square is reached at which point the numbering shall proceed beginning with 100; and at each such succeeding line forming such square shall proceed, as 200, 300, 400, etc. Beginning at the east line of Chicago Road within said village, houses shall be numbered to the east starting with the number 1 on the north side and beginning with number 2 on the south side of all east and west streets and increasing to the next odd number on the north side of such streets and to the next even number on the south side of such streets and a house number of each 20 feet of frontage of such streets, until the next succeeding north and south line forming such square is reached at which point the numbering shall proceed beginning with 100; and at each such succeeding line forming such square shall proceed, as 200, 300, 400, etc.

    (4)

Where a street is in its course both a north and south, or northerly and southerly, and an east and west, or an easterly and westerly street, it shall be treated as a street having the direction in which it is most extended or is likely to be most extended.
