§ 2-83. Emergency interim successors.

  • The village president, village administrator, village treasurer, police chief, and fire chief shall designate, by title or by named person, not less than three emergency interim successors and specify their order of succession. In the event of an attack upon the United States or disaster affecting the village such that any of these officers are absent or unable to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the office, their designated successors shall exercise their powers until such time as a vacancy that may exist is filled in accordance with state law or until the officer again becomes available to exercise his or her powers. Such emergency interim successors shall exercise the powers of their office strictly within the requirements and limitations of the Emergency Interim Executive Succession Act, 5 ILCS 275/1 et seq., as enacted or hereafter amended. Each officer's designations shall be filed with the village clerk and each officer shall periodically review these designations to insure their current status and availability.
